Cookie and Local Storage Policy
1. What these technologies are
A cookie is a small file a site stores on your device. Local storage and session storage are similar mechanisms in the browser. GetKnowen uses them only as needed to sign you in, keep a house display signed in, remember the board on that device, and deliver the site securely. We treat information stored this way as personal information when it can identify you, and handle it under the Privacy Policy.
2. Cookies and storage we set

These are strictly necessary for a logged-in product. The board cannot run without a session. The board itself (after you log in) sets no advertising or analytics cookies.
3. Optional ad and analytics cookies (public pages only)
On our public pages (home, comparison and guide pages) we use two optional tools: the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms) and Google Analytics (Google). They help us see which of our ads bring people to the site. They run automatically on those pages, and never on the logged-in board, the billing page or the HQ. Meta and Google handle that data under their own privacy policies.
If we detect that you are visiting from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we do not load them until you tap Accept in a banner. If you tap No thanks, they do not load, and you can change your choice by clearing site data for getknowen.com.
Wherever you are, they do not load if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. You can also block them with a tracking-protection setting or ad blocker, adjust the ads you see in your Meta ad preferences, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
We do not use:
- advertising or analytics cookies on the logged-in board;
- cross-site profiling by us;
- sale of browsing data.
4. Third-party cookies we do not control
When you pay, you are taken to Stripe Checkout on buy.stripe.com. Stripe may set cookies on its own domain under the Stripe Privacy Policy. We do not read those cookies. Transactional email and holiday or weather lookups may cause your device to contact those providers; they are not cookies we set on getknowen.com.
If you play the homepage video, it is hosted with the rest of the site and does not embed a third-party advertising player.
Pages serve the Plus Jakarta Sans font from our own site and load some code libraries from jsDelivr; recipe photos come from TheMealDB. These requests send your IP address and browser details to those providers so they can deliver the file. We do not set cookies for them.
5. How you control them
You can sign out from Settings. You can clear cookies and site data for getknowen.com in your browser. Doing so signs this device out and removes the local cache. It does not delete the household stored on our servers. You can also use the browser to block cookies; if you block all cookies the board will not stay signed in.
A house tablet that must stay signed in should not have cookies cleared as part of a general “clean my iPad” pass unless you intend to log in again.
6. Changes
If we add further optional analytics or marketing tools we will update this Policy and, where the law requires it, obtain consent before setting them. Updated 13 October 2026 to describe the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics on public pages. The current version is published at getknowen.com/cookies.
